    Under the cooperative framework between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the European Union (EU), in 2018 the General Office of Population and Family Planning (GOPFP) with technical assistance from the EU Health Facility (EU-HF) has developed a draft manual guiding the implementation of extra-curriculum activities that aim at reducing imbalanced sex ratio at birth, raising awareness of gender and promoting gender equity among school children.

    Designed as a practical manual for health workers in Vietnam, the Handbook aims to raise awareness among the medical community about the importance of non-communicable diseases (NCD) prevention and risk factors as well as the role of medical doctors during periodic health examinations. In the coming months, the Handbook will be printed and made available for use in all health services in Vietnam.

Training Course on Skilled Birth Attendants Underway

On March 22nd, 2019 in Lao Cao province, with financial support from European Union (EU), the Mother and Child Health Department under the Ministry of Health (MOH) in collaboration with the European Union Health Facility (EU-HF) conducted the training course on the skilled birth attendants. This course had the honor of having the presence of Mr. Koen Duchateau, Head of Cooperation and Development, European Union Delegation to Vietnam, who participated one morning and presented certificates to course participants, together with MOH and DOH leaders.

The traininig course on the skilled birth attendants aims to provide practical knowledge and skills for birth attendants. So far 14 courses covering 7 provinces, including Hà Giang, Cao Bằng, Lai Châu, Điện Biên, Đắk Nông, Sơn La và Lào Cai provinces have been conducted. In each province, there are 2 training courses. In total there have been 351 health staff coming from provincial hospitals, local health centers and clinics that were trained. From now until May 2019, there will be 3 more provinces (with 6 more training courses) that will take place with participation of over 150 health workers.

EU has been providing substantial financial support to the health sector in Vietnam through the Health Sector Policy Support Programme since 2011.
