Workshop on Sex Imbalances at Birth in secondary schools in Da Nang

On 19-20 October 2017, the General Department of Population and Family Planning, with the support from the European Union Health Facility (EU-HF), organised the workshop on “Sex Imbalances at Birth” in secondary schools in Da Nang city. With the participation of 16 provinces and cities including Hai Duong, Binh Thuan, Quang Ngai, Quang Binh, Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Phu Yen, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Tra Vinh, Ho Chi Minh, Ca Mau, the workshop’s objective is to instruct localities to incorporate the topic of sex imbalances at birth into activities of secondary schools.

At the workshop, there were representatives of ministries and departments: Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Ministry of Health; research centers and institutes; and experts of international organizations (UNFPA, EU, etc.). In addition, there were also representatives of leaders of Department of Health, Department of Education and Training, Department of Population and Family Planning from 16 provinces, cities and regions across the country.

During two days, the workshop, which was supported by the European Union, provided information on how to integrate the topic of gender equality and population policies and sex imbalances at birth into curriculum of high schools and secondary schools. Participants of the workshop experienced a study tour to learn and gain local experiences of promoting activities related to education on population during extracurricular activities at schools. The contents of the workshop were very practical, aiming at identifying difficulties and proposing orientations to develop methods of integrating this topic into curriculum of high schools and secondary schools.

The workshop was chaired by Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Nguyen Viet Tien and Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, Deputy Head of the GOPFP.

    On 16th of May, the European Union Health Facility in cooperation with General Office for Population Family Planning and Ministry of Health organized workshop on Assessment of One-Year Implementation of the Project on Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) Imbalance Control Period 2016-2025 in Tam Ky City, Quang Nam Province. The workshop was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Van Tan, Deputy Head of the General Office for Population and Family Planning.

    The EU has been supporting the Ministry of Health since many years in improving and operationalizing the quality management system. Circular No. 19 on the Introduction of the Quality Indicators in Hospitals was developed and launched in 2013 with the support of the EU funded Health Sector Capacity Support Project. It is hoped that sufficient fundsfrom the SCR 2 budget support will be allocated for quality improvement at district and grassroots levels to improve to quality health services in communes and districts and also to overcome the overcrowding of higher level hospitals.
